“What is the difference between Hydrafacial and DiamondPeel Dermalinfusion?”
As an industry, we have seen a significant drop in traditional mircrodermabrasion facials as new and innovative skin care technologies have emerged. There are many safe and effective exfoliation options now available, including the HydraFacial, the SilkPeel Dermalinfusion and SkinMedica DiamondGlow to name a few. With the influx of so many treatment options, it can be a daunting task figuring out which treatment is right for you and your skin’s needs. Let’s take a closer look at the differences.

HYDRAFACIAL (figure 1)
The HydraFacial is a skin resurfacing treatment that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts, and hydrates the skin. With its plastic Vortex tip, the device uses fluid and suction to remove dead skin cells and other impurities while hydrating the skin.
The HydraFacial combines AHA and BHA acids to chemically exfoliate the skin. This has a positive effect on clients struggling with active acne, but can dry and irritate the skin of clients who are not experiencing breakouts. Hydrafacial does not include a manual exfoliation so it is often advertised with dermaplaning to provide additional exfoliation to the HydraFacial service.
DIAMOND MICRODERMABRASION (figure 2)
In diamond tip microdermabrasion, a wand with a diamond-encrusted tip is passed over the skin. The diamond tip abrades the skin and, the exfoliated particles are then vacuumed away through the wand. This is considered a manual exfoliation. For more comprehensive exfoliation, diamond microdermabrasion is often advertised with enzyme masks or peels to provided the needed chemical exfoliation to the microdermabrasion service.
DIAMONDPEEL DERMALINFUSION (figure 3)
Dermalfusion treatments (including SilkPeel, DiamondGlow and DiamondPeel) combine non-invasive microdermabrasion and Dermalinfusion. The handset is equipped with a moving diamond tip and uses microdermabrasion technology to slough off the top layer of dead skin cells. This helps to address the buildup of dead skin, discoloration, and can stimulate collagen and elastin production; therefore reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dermalinfusion also involves the delivery of topical solutions that penetrate the dermal skin layers and initiate cell regeneration.
Dermalinfusion treatments are unique because they are the only modality which delivers the combination of simultaneous physical and chemical exfoliation.

WHICH DEVICE GIVES YOU A BETTER TREATMENT?
The choice of treatment depends on the condition of the skin, as well as skin concerns being treated. It is always recommended that you have a consultation with an esthetician before undergoing any facial of this kind. However, the dermalinfusion treatment is the obvious preference amongst skincare providers due to the customizable variables, the combination of chemical and manual exfoliation and efficacy of results. Clients receive a more thorough exfoliation and a luxurious experience.
